Viva Join this choir

Viva choristers are nine to eleven years old (grades four to six), and they enjoy a program designed to advance their musical skills and build new repertoire. Viva choristers rehearse once a week for an hour and a half. It is an award-winning choir, having received the first-place award for singers ten years and under at the National Festival.

The choir performs at the Calgary Girls Choir benefit concert, Sopranos, in the fall, joins the Choir’s Festive Concert in December and the Celebrate Concert in May. Viva also presents its own family recitals. This season Viva activities include Fall Camp (overnight) and Winter Workshop, the CBC Radio Carol Festival at Knox United Church, a school tour day and the Spring Concert Tour.

Allegra Join this choir

Allegra is the children’s choir for singers ages eleven to fifteen years of age (to grade 10). Allegra choristers rehearse once each week for three hours. The choir participates in the Fall Camp and Winter Workshop, performs at the Choir’s benefit concert, Sopranos, in the fall, joins the Calgary Girls Choir’s Festive Concert and the Celebrate Concert in May. The choir also presents community concerts around Calgary and Alberta.

Allegra has received first-place awards for choirs fourteen years and under in every class entered at the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival and the Provincial Festival. The Choir has also received first-place awards in the same class at the National Festival.

Allegra, recognized as a leading Canadian children’s choir, has made its mark with noted performances at the Welsh International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales and at Carnegie Hall in spring 2003. In 2004/2005, Allegra participated in a youth choir exchange program with the Guelph Youth Singers, and last March was the featured choir at a mini-festival in Red Deer.

Allegra will be Choir-in Residence at the National Conference 2006 of the Organization of American Kodály Educators in Chicago in March. The choir will also work with Ms. Quilichini at the mini-conference prior to the OAKE conference.

Regazze Join this choir

Ragazze is the Full Chorus for singers ages fifteen to twenty-five years. The choristers develop advanced musical skills, study a more rigorous repertoire, and perform a wide variety of exciting music in several languages. Ragazze choristers rehearse once a week for three hours.

The Choir participates in Fall Camp and the Winter Workshop, performs at the Calgary Girls Choir’s Sopranos benefit concert in the fall and the Festive Concert in December. Ragazze also presents community concerts and performs at corporate events around Calgary and Alberta.

Ragazze has also received all first place awards at the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival, and was a consistent winner at the Provincial and National Festivals.

Ragazze was also a prizewinner at the Welsh International Eisteddfod, and performed to a standing ovation at Carnegie Hall in 2003. In 2005 Ragazze performed several concerts at the prestigious National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association in Los Angeles.

Last season Ragazze performed an innovative interactive internet broadcast with international conductor Maria Guinand during The Phenomenon of Singing Symposium held in St. John’s, Newfoundland. This season Ragazze will perform at Festival 500 Sharing the Voices at Memorial University in July.

Brava

Brava, an ensemble of senior singers from the Full Chorus, pursues challenging repertoire, presents concerts, performs with other musicians, and travels internationally. Recording is an important element in Brava's program, and the Choir has proudly released six compact disc recordings to critical praise: Christmas Crèche, Calgary Girls Choir - Collection, The Seven Joys of Christmas, Christmas Blessing and A Child’s Question and Good Cheer (released December, 2006
Since 2000 Brava has performed at major national and international music conferences, such as Podium 2000 and ISME 2000 held in Edmonton and at the Canadian premiere of Penderecki’s Credo at the Banff Centre for the Arts.

Brava choristers also performed at the 55th Eisteddfod in Wales, a prizewinner in the Youth Choir and Folk Song Choir Classes. The Choir also presented concerts in London, Colchester and Wells in England. Brava choristers made their mark on New York with a debut performance to a sold out audience at Carnegie Hall, and took part in several concerts and performances in Boston and New York.

Last season Brava performed Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria and Srul Irving Glick’s Psalm Trilogy with Edmonton’s Cantilon Choirs at the Alberta Choral Federation’s annual conference. The choir repeated its stirring performance at the Calgary Girls Choir’s Festive Concert.
