he Junior Community Music Program provides our youngest singers with a firm foundation of basic music skills and music literacy to prepare them for further study. The Kodály-based program is designed for children four to eight years of age, and offered in a small class size that encourages a personal educational relationship. In a playful atmosphere, the singers acquire the ability to hear and think music
.

Dolce, our new group for girls ages eight to eleven years, completes the Junior Program. It is an auditioned choir for singers who have experience in the Junior Program or for new choristers who will benefit from more experience before joining Viva (ages nine to eleven years/grades four to six).

Bella is also a Kodály based music education program offered at northwest, southeast and southwest locations. Through singing, movement, dance and creative expression, children ages six to eight learn about music. They understand melody, rhythm, harmony, listening and improvisation through the song material. The focus of the program is to provide experiences and skills necessary to develop the child's singing voice as a means of expression, and develop her ability to understand, read and write music.

Bella performs at the Junior Fall Recital, Calgary Girls Choir’s Festive Concert and the Junior Spring Concert. Bella singers also demonstrate their music for family and friends periodically through the season.

Dolce, (dole-chay) meaning sweetly, is a new program for ages eight to eleven years began rehearsals in September 2006. It is an auditioned choir for singers who have several years experience in the Junior Program or for new choristers who will benefit from more experience before joining Viva (ages nine to eleven years/grades four to six).

Dolce is a Kodály-based approach. Choristers will refine in-tune singing, further develop their musical literacy and continue working on vocal production. Rehearsals are one hour and fifteen minutes weekly. The choir will perform at the Junior Fall and Spring Recitals, the Calgary Girls Choir’s Festive Concert, and community venues. There is no Choir Camp or Tour aspect to this program.

Singers ages eight to eleven years who wish to audition for the Calgary Girls Choir will be placed in Dolce or Viva as determined by the Artistic Director.
