Salvator Mundi by William Mathias

Salvator Mundi is a carol sequence in the great tradition of A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten and Dancing Day by John Rutter. The work is a setting of seven ancient texts for treble chorus, piano duet, percussion and string orchestra by Welsh composer William Mathias (1934-1992). The poems are from the 15, 16 and 17 centuries and focus primarily on the story of Jesus' birth. The work was first performed in 1982 by the Cheltenham Ladies College in association with the Welsh Arts Council.

This is a sequence of traditional carols arranged by composer Kirke Mechem for the Chamber Singers, San Francisco College for Women in 1964. Mechem's talents are apparent in these rhythmic and often complex arrangements. Each carol is chosen to convey the essence of a particular Christmas joy.
